Gruff,The
With instruments outnumbering the musicians, The Gruff take to the stage and seamlessly perform their self composed tunes that are laced with freshness and infectious high spirits. While their roots embrace traditional musical elements, they have also evolved a distinctive contemporary folk edge to their lyrics, and a driving energy in their Celtic-tinged instrumentals. The three women of The Gruff accompany their tightly woven harmonies with guitar, fiddle, bodhran, snare drum, penny whistle, harmonica and accordion. The fourth member plays bass. They have developed a unique sound, one moment invoking a sincere, moody atmosphere, and the next blazing through fun and complex original arrangements.

A Goat on Every Floor was made possible by the Canada Council of the Arts and has been awarded The "100.3 The Q! Album of the Year" award at the 3rd Annual Island Music Awards in Victoria May 2004. We recorded A Goat on Every Floor with our good friend Adrian Dolan who plays with The Bill's (formerly The Bill Hilly Band). It was mastered by Joby Baker at Baker Studios. I can honestly say that it's the best CD ever. The most exciting thing about this CD (besides the influence of Adrian, and the greatest graphics ever seen) is that unlike our first CD, A Goat on Every Floor is full of original music!

The Million Dollar Tip

The Million Dollar Tip is our first CD. It was released in January 2002. We had a great time recording it with Kate Simms at Bent Sound in Victoria. (Kate has now relocated to Vancouver) It is full of traditional fiddle tunes and vocal hits. There are also a couple of original tunes (the first of many). We had the pleasure of playing with a few other musicians on the disc so there's a nice full sound complete with bass and accordion!
