This is another example of just how great bands can still be even without the same singers or most famous members in the lineup. It's the spirit that remains in full effect here, as well as the finest Guess Who songs in at least six years that places "All This For A Song" near the very top of the band's impressive canon.

Burton Cummings Up Close & Alone

CD (August 26, 1997)
Original Release Date: August 26, 1997
Label: Hip-O Records
Cummings unplugged, in a fashion, performing 18 songs from throughout his career on solo piano. Recorded in December 1995 in front of a small but very vocal and appreciative audience. The repertoire includes reprises of old Guess Who hits (including "Undun," awhere Cummings sounds, probably unintentionally, like a lounge singer deliberately taking the piss out of the tune) and a cover of "Ferry Cross the Mersey," as well as the brief and weird "Gordon Lightfoot Does Maggie May." Mostly it's his own compositions, though; not a recipe that's bound for success in the U.S., but one that worked quite well in Canada, where Cummings retains a devoted audience, and where this album went gold. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

Burton Cummings My Own Way to Rock

CD (April 11, 2000)
Original Release Date 1977
Sony
Burton Cummings is perhaps best known from his days as the lead singer/songwriter for the legendary Guess Who. From his days with The Guess Who to his successful solo career, Winnipeg native Burton Cummings has managed to make himself something of a Canadian icon. Now, for the first time, his second solo recording, 'My Own Way To Rock', is available in newly remastered version. This second solo album, originally released on the Portrait label in 1977, followed in a more rock and roll direction than his debut album the year before. Although this album was the commercial success of the debut, it did produced the hit, "My Own Way To Rock," as well as fan favorites, " Charlemagne" and "Never Had A Lady Before." This album was remastered by legendary engineer, Bill Inglot and contains two new bonus tracks, from Cummings extensive library, which were not included on the original release. All original artwork has been fully restored, and new liner notes, written by Burton himself, and all of the songs lyrics accompany this re-mastered version of the album. ~ Keith Pettipas, All Music Guide

Guess Who The Best of the Guess Who

CD (October 25, 1990)
Original Release Date: 1971
Label: Rca
Reviewer: orangeduke from Cupertino, Ca United States
Every track is a masterpiece. It's the kind of album that I play again and again, and never tire of. It's an album that I take on every road trip, and play every time. Truth be told, although The Guess Who were a great band, most of their albums were uneven. This collection, however, is masterful, all the great tracks from their early albums (most with Randy Bachman) collected together and thus made irresistible. The early Guess Who combined great lyrics, great Who style music and soulful singing. Indeed, Burton Cummings is probably the most underrated vocalist of the rock era, his passionate emotive style makes Joe Cocker sound like Bob Dylan (check out 'No Time'). Best single track is 'No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature'. Without a doubt one of the greatest albums of the era, all fans of sixties music should own it.
