Mikeoula / Suzan Nixon SEAC, BA CYC (bio)
Mikeoula has been aware of the healing power of music for most of her life, long before she ever studied the research which supported and validated that fact. Music has proven her ally and her solace over the years. A gifted, self-taught musician, she has been working with music for over 30 years in a multitude of settings, ranging from nursery schools to high school classrooms, living rooms to hospital rooms. Even while pursuing formal studies in special education and Child and Youth Care, Mikeoula found ways to incorporate her passionate beliefs in the therapeutic use of music.
For four years, she developed and facilitated several music programs for children and adults with special needs through Nanaimo's Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. She also instructed a children's choir in a local school for 3 years, and has been actively bringing live music into classrooms for over 20 years. She continues to work in collaboration with the Island Hospice Society to provide live, bedside music to palliative patients, which has proven a profoundly meaningful venue for her.
An intuitive healer, Mikeoula has studied Reiki, mediation, visualization and "angelheart" healing techniques for four years, under Reverend Antarra Carr, Healing Minister and Karuna Reiki Master Teacher, in B.C. and most recently in Mt. Shasta, California. Recent major life changes have presented the opportunity for Mikoeoula to actively pursue her work as a healing practitioner.
A symphonic sound healer, she is able to attune to a person's energy and spontaneously co-create gentle healing music on her keyboard for that individual. She is currently expanding the use of crystal bowls and voice in her practice. Be it deeply relaxing music for palliative patients or energizing singalongs for adults with special needs, Mikeoula consistently strives to enlighten others regarding the limitless capabilities of music, to open and balance the chakras, uplift the spirit and soothe the soul. She maintains that each of us knows this intuitively; she intends to help us remember.
