Olafson, Lowry
Lowry Olafson, Vancouver-based singer, songwriter, violin and guitar player, has toured throughout Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Iceland, playing concert stages, festivals, folk clubs, and house concerts. The qualities that set Lowry Olafson apart from other songwriters are his smooth, calming performance style, his engaging melodies, and the way his songs hit home and move his audience to identify with other people's experiences. Add Lowry's captivating violin compositions to the mix, and you'll see why his concerts are both uplifting and entertaining.

Lowry was born in Lahore, Pakistan, to a father who worked with the UN and a mother who taught piano. He began playing piano at age 5, violin at age 9, guitar and songwriting at age 11. His early musical activities included studying classical violin and singing everything from folk to operetta. Lowry supplemented his early musical career with a variety of work all across Canada. A tour of Southern Europe and Southeast Asia turned into four years in Australia, where his numerous colourful experiences added fuel for his unique stories and songs.

Lowry remained in Perth for several years, where he played guitar, fiddle, and mandolin for a variety of bands, ranging from folk and country to a weird sci-fi band. He also renewed studies in violin and music composition. Lowry moved back to Canada in 1982 but continued his international touring at such events as the 1985 Australian National Folk Festival and venues like the Hong Kong Folk Club. From 1987-90, Lowry took a performing hiatus and opened a White Rock clothing store and cappuccino bar called Silly Sisters with his former wife. The popular Sunday music sessions Lowry created there enticed him to perform the songs that would later appear on his first album, WIND AND RAIN, released in March 1992. This album was followed by GOOD INTENTIONS in 1994 and BACK AGAIN in 1996. His 1998 release, LITTLE MYSTERIES, was named the Number One New Release of the Year on Jurgen Gothe' s Best of BC Hit List. It also made the Top 12 in the November 1999 Performing Songwriter magazine.

Lowry's fifth and latest CD, DAYS THAT DISAPPEAR TOO SOON, was recorded live in the studio with two virtuoso sidemen, Daryl Jahnke (classical and electric guitars) and Nathen Aswell (fretless bass and vocals).
