Greg Joy
Greg Joy was born in Victoria, Canada. After traveling to Europe in 1975, he became interested in British Isles folk music, at which time he also became seriously interested in the acoustic guitar. He returned to Canada and formed a traditional folk group. He started studying classical guitar at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and formed a duo with Graham Way. Performing in various groups focusing on the Celtic jigs & reels and traditional folk songs, he developed his unique acoustic guitar style which utilizes open tunings and is based on a synthesis of folk, classical and light rock influences.
Greg Joy has performed extensively with guitar, flute, mandolin and hammer dulcimer, always maintaining a thread of 'folk_baroque' influence in his work.
Greg owns his own record company with artists such as Mary Anderson (Celtic Healing OMM 61322), Lori Pappajohn (Celtic Harp Of Dreams OMM 58582), and Magical Strings (Legend Of Inishcahey ORW 60372).
Available on the Oreade label: Celtic Secrets (OMM 5221-2); Celtic Secrets II (OMM 58672); Celtic Ring Of Fire (OMM 59182).
