Foil CD (1994) Murray started playing the drums at age 12. At 13 he attended private lessons with Ian Taylor of Tempo Trend Studios. Four years later, with a wealth of drumistic knowledge under his belt, Murray started to play with bands in the Victoria music scene. Mike Ritzer, one of the musicians Murray was playing with, started to talk about a school in Los Angeles called the "Musicians Institute." It was the Spring of ’91 that saw these two "Wanna-be Rock Stars" head off to Hollywood… Murray attended the "Percussion Institute of Technology." There he studied drums with some of the top teachers in the world. 4 hours of classes per day, and 4 hours of practice each night. This was an amazing experience for Murray. Upon graduating he was nominated as the "Most Improved Drummer of the Year." In ’92, it was time for him to head back to Canada and find some top notch musicians to start a band with. Murray played in a few local bands in Vancouver, but it was his home town of Victoria which produced the best opportunity for him. He started to play with an "Alternative" rock band called "Fine Tooth Combine." With this band Murray recorded two c.d.’s. 1994’s "Foil," and 1995’s "Big, Big Sour," saw the band film three videos and tour Canada three times. Shows with bands like; I Mother Earth, 54 40 and Everclear brought "Fine Tooth Combine" national acclaim. It was at this time that Murray started to teach. He soon realized that he loved to show people what drums are all about. With the writing of this book, Murray is making his philosophy on drumming available to a much wider audience. Now you can find him talking, even singing about drums every day of the week.
