Burton Cummings My Own Way to Rock

CD (April 11, 2000)
Original Release Date 1977
Sony
Burton Cummings is perhaps best known from his days as the lead singer/songwriter for the legendary Guess Who. From his days with The Guess Who to his successful solo career, Winnipeg native Burton Cummings has managed to make himself something of a Canadian icon. Now, for the first time, his second solo recording, 'My Own Way To Rock', is available in newly remastered version. This second solo album, originally released on the Portrait label in 1977, followed in a more rock and roll direction than his debut album the year before. Although this album was the commercial success of the debut, it did produced the hit, "My Own Way To Rock," as well as fan favorites, " Charlemagne" and "Never Had A Lady Before." This album was remastered by legendary engineer, Bill Inglot and contains two new bonus tracks, from Cummings extensive library, which were not included on the original release. All original artwork has been fully restored, and new liner notes, written by Burton himself, and all of the songs lyrics accompany this re-mastered version of the album. ~ Keith Pettipas, All Music Guide

THE PIED PUMKIN STRING ENSEMBLE: (Pied Pumkin) VINYL ALBUM

Recorded live at Simon Frasier University in the pub with inebriate ambiance that grows too familiar after the 100th listening. Regardless, this is the 'sine qua non' of their recording debut. No chicken.....no Egg. It is hot and touted by many fans to be the most definitive of a Pumkin Evening. TUNES: Orville goes to the country / Kootenay Bark / I Believe / Medley / Long and Lonely / Ming 14 / You Can Change the World / People I Love You

Release Date: 12/31/1971

A veteran of the guitar and piano from an early age, Valdy grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, born of Danish parents. From the mid-'60s, he played with the London Town Criers, the Prodigal Sons and Blake Emmons. Signed to A&M for a solo contract, Valdy recorded his first solo album, Country Man, in 1972 and soon became Canada's second most popular folk singer (behind Gordon Lightfoot) through albums such as Landscapes (1973), Family Gathering (1974), See How the Years Have Gone By (1975) and Valdy & the Hometown Band (1976). Four more albums followed for A&M: Hot Rocks (1978), Passport: Best of Valdy (1979), 1001 (1980) and Valdy's Kids Record (1982). After one album for Duke Street entitled Notes from Places in 1985, Valdy signed with Oak Street Music and released Heart at Work in 1993.
