Alan Moberg

For over 30 years, this songwriter/performer, with his quality voice and his gift for heartfelt expression, has shared his creative gratitude for a simple Western Canadian lifestyle. Alan Moberg reaches into his soul to find words that capture the beauty of his world: both that of his homeland, British Columbia; and also the inner world of the heart.   On stage, Moberg's bell like voice and melodious naturalness wraps his audiences in a sense of uncanny familiarity. His words paint musical scenes of good times and troubles, loves and laughter which people recognize as their own. As he portrays personal life experiences, his openness gives his songs a particular poignancy and reverence not usually found in ordinary country music.

Born in Pender Harbour, B.C., music fired Alan Moberg's passions throughout his growing years and throughout careers as a commercial fisherman and a professional landscaper. Each adventure provided Moberg with a song. He took the opportunity to study the lives and experiences of all he encountered. He purposely chose to musically celebrate the fascination, charm and splendour of his home territory; rather than travel the alluring trail to the South.  His songs reflect his affinity for people who live close to the land, including the First Nations People who honoured and distinguished Alan by giving him a hereditary name and adopting him into the Gitskahn Killer Whale Clan of Kispiox. B.C.

Today, Alan Moberg lives on Salt Spring Island where he continues to write and record his loving, humorous, astute and ever-sensitive responses to life. He paints intimately familiar scenarios that suggest to people that Alan Moberg plucked those songs from their souls.  Alan sings and listening hearts respond.

Home and Dry, the latest CD by singer/songwriter Alan Moberg , was released January 2002. A superb collection of 16 songs, the vision for this project has been "The man, his guitar and the song". Other instrumentation has been added sparingly to enhance the original renditions without altering their simplicity and integrity. This CD has truly been a Salt Spring production. Local musicians Bob Delion, Charlie Erck, Dan Rudick, Garry Macpherson, Jeannine Munn, and Terry Warbey all contribute their skills to this album. Valdy sings harmony on the song that bears his name ("Song for Valdy") and Bill Henderson (Chilliwack) appears on three songs. Bill expressed interest in playing on this CD after hearing Alan perform at the Salt Spring Fall Fair. The only non-resident musician on the album is Daniel Lapp, a close neighbour on Vancouver Island. All the recording and mixing was done "on island" by Dan Rudick and Jeannine Munn (aka Jack N Lefty) and the beautiful CD cover was painted by local artist Jill Louise Campbell.
