What makes Cd Isle different than other online cd stores?

Cd Isle is, first and foremost, an archive committed to preserving and promoting the musical works of island recording artists, from British Columbia, Canada.

Our mission:

  • to gather and preserve BC island music, past and present

  • to help promote and sell recordings for Canadian artists living on Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and surrounding islands in British Columbia, Canada

  • to work in partnership with recording artists, their distributors, the fans, the promoters and all who support the island arts

Who's behind Cd Isle?

Cd Isle is owned and operated by island recording artists Ric Lafontaine and Elly Parker. Both have been active on Vancouver Island's music scene since 1990. Ric and long-time friend Jerry Paquette of Raincoast Studio are the founders of Nanaimo Songwriters Circle and Island Showcase.

About Cd Isle's archive

Part of Cd Isle's mandate is to act as a music resource centre and directory. Gathering under one roof as many Vancouver Island musical recordings, as possible. Ultimately this collection will be preserved as a historical record of the rich and diverse musical community found on Vancouver Island and the many surrounding islands. It is a deliberate commitment on the part of independent musicians to preserve an important part of our culture.   

Why does Cd Isle sell in US currency?

Cd Isle is dedicated to promoting Vancouver Island artists to the world. The US dollar is more globally recognized. The majority of customers  at Cd Isle are U.S. citizens.

How much does it cost to sell cds on Cd Isle?

A one-time fee of $35 CND for each release.

What if one or more of my cds is already listed on Cd Isle?

Then you are part of Cd Isle's success story. Just send in 5 cds (if you haven't already). No charge now or in the future. Feel free to send in 5 copies of your next release too !!!

 

Are there any contracts to sign with Cd Isle?

There are no contracts to sign. We don't want to own the rights to you. We're an online record store selling independent island records like yours, and ours! Elly and I have 3 recordings on Cd Isle.

Why should I sell cds on the internet, they don't seem to sell?

It is widely agreed by the music industry that performing to the public sells cds. The industry is rapidly changing because of the internet. It is believed that over a billion people are now online and those numbers are increasing. As consumer confidance increases so will record sales. Most independent artists do not have access to distribution. Making your cds available online is a service to both your fans, and you!

What if I don't have a website?

Cd Isle can create one for you. Just visit bLUE eCHO webdesign or use Cd Isle (you get a bio, a pic, 4 music samples, and a link for your email). Ask Ric about setting you up with a link from your Cd Isle webpage to your own calendar of events using one of the free web hosts available.
