Ian McDougall
Songs and Arias

(2 CD set)
Barbarian Records
Ian teaches trombone and jazz studies at the University of Victoria. His career has taken him through a multitude of musical experiences, including making music with John Dankworth, Ted Heath, Woody Herman, Oscar Peterson, Rob McConnell's Boss Brass, The Vancouver Symphony and CBC Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Brass Connection, and the University of Victoria's Brasswest, to name a few.
Ian writes: "The trombone is a vocal instrument. What better way to explore this quality than by playing 'songs'? As a jazz player, I have always been exposed to tunes written by the great melodists of the twentieth century - Rodgers, Berlin, Gershwin, Porter, etc., but as a member of an opera loving family, I have come to appreciate the arias (songs) of the great composers in that idiom as well."
