Gerry Barnum
Pickin' Up the Pieces

It's the feeling that moves me. Sure there's the technical aspect, but there's something that goes way beyond technique... something honest, something pure. That's where I want to be with my music." *Barnum interview, The Whitehorse Star As a solo performer or much in-demand sideman/session musician, Gerry is both well known and loved in the music community of the West Coast. A seasoned artist, who has played with, or opened for, some of the top acts in the business. His biography reads like a Lexicon - names such as: K.D. Lang; Randy Travis; John Mayall; Mick Taylor; Hot Tuna; James Cot ten; Spencer Davis Croup; Dwight Yoakum; Lyle Lovett; Los Lobos; the Blasters; Idle Eyes; Savoy Brown; John Hammond, and many more. . A dynamic slide guitarist and expressive vocalist, Gerry can also slip into an inspired harmonica solo as smooth as taking a breath. He is confident with an audience and often very funny on stage, making him a pleasure to play with and inspiring to see in concert. To describe his style is to draw from his broad base of influences, most notably Ry Cooder, Elmore James, Taj Mahal, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, and the Delta Blues of Robert Johnson. Influenced from an early age by the traditional blues, Gerry has now stretched into his own definitive style of playing. His songs are familiar to the blues in feel, yet more evolved in texture and lyric content. Lately he has been passing on sideman gigs to work as a solo performer -more specifically, a singer/songwriter. To say his songs have soul is an understatement. They are deep emotional, colourful tunes with a groove that'll make you want to stomp your feet and rock in your chair. He is a passionate performer who is not afraid to laugh or share with an audience his great big love. "Roots and original music steeped in spirit and soul of the blues.
