Running from the Mountains
Classic watershed hits performed by Holly Arntzen and the Watershed Choir
In the fall of 1999, students and teachers at four schools on southern Vancouver Island supported the production of a music CD dedicated to appreciation, knowledge, and positive action on behalf of water stewardship. Holly gave a series of music residency programs, teaching songs to 248 students at Durrance, Beaver Lake, Strawberry Vale, and Spectrum schools. Stephen Foster of the Artist Response Team (ART) coordinated the production and recording, and Lenny Ross of the Colquitz Watershed Stewardship Project developed a curriculum guide to help teachers use the songs to fulfill prescribed learning outcomes. WILD BC funded program development. Since the CD’s release in December 1999, thousands of people have been directly affected by Running from the Mountains and the musical residency program.
