Ken Hamm Cross the River

Ken Hamm is one of Canada's foremost interpreters of traditional roots and blues music. He has won a wide following for his stellar guitarwork, on both acoustic and steelbody National, as well as for his original material. Along the way Ken Hamm was awarded a Juno for best roots and traditional CD ("Saturday Night Blues"). He was also nominated three years running as best acoustic blues guitarist by "Guitar Player" magazine. Hamm was raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario and began his musical pursuits by listening to the old country and blues recordings of Leadbelly, Robert Johnson, Son House, Skip James, Willie Dixon, Big Bill Broonzy and other blues greats. After playing in local bands and performing in coffeehouses around Thunder Bay, Hamm began travelling the folk circuit in 1978. Over the past two decades he has performed in venues ranging from house concerts to concert halls to major festivals. Hamm moved to Vancouver Island on Canada's West Coast in 1982. He continues to tour extensively and to write from his experiences as a silviculturalist, fisherman and rural observer. His songs reflect the land he loves and the lives of the people that live there without being sentimental or overstated.
